THE SWEARING IN OF JUSTICE DAISY OKOCHA AS THE CHIEF JUDGE OF RIVERS STATE.
The swearing in of Justice Daisy Okocha as Chief Judge (CJ) of Rivers State today marks the end of a long episode concerning the issue of a substantive Chief Judge for Rivers State.
Following the retirement of the then CJ Justice Ichendu, the National Judicial Council (NJC) had on 22nd July 2013 recommended Justice Okocha for the position of CJ to the then Governor Rotimi Ameachi.
The long delay in the state having a substansive CJ was as a result of Rotimi Ameachi’s bid to install his preferred person as the CJ of Rivers State.
Her swearing in also marks the beginning of the tenure of the first female Chief Judge of Rivers State.
During the event, the Governor described her as a child of history and encouraged her to always uphold the rule of law.
In her response, the CJ thanked her family and the government for supporting her through her time as Acting CJ.
The event was attended by Her Excellency Justice Ebereschi S. Wike the wife of the Governor, The President of the state Customary Court of Appeal and other Rivers State judges
